Watford Celebration 2018!

We had our Watford Celebration AGM on 21st November and it was decided that we will go ahead with Watford Celebration 2018!! Everybody is telling us that we cannot stop! Our finances are going down and we need more dedicated members on our committee but where there is a will there is a way. We decided this time to have the Celebration on the first Bank Holiday Monday 7th May. We welcome your help and support in whatever ways you can.

Our support to Manchester

During the Celebration event and in the following week, a book of condolence for the survivors of the Manchester bombing was made available in the church for signing, and also large sheets of card and craft materials were available in the children's area for children to express their thoughts. Marijah Butcher wrote a poem and read it out on stage which told of the love coming from the people of Watford to the people of Manchester following this distressing event. One of the councillors, Maggie Parker, will be hand delivering all this along with a message from elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill to the Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham at the end of June.
This was drawn by one of the children.

Thank you everyone!

The Watford Celebration team would like to thank everyone who came and volunteered at the Watford Celebration. We had a wonderful time, experiencing in one afternoon a glimpse of so many rich and colourful cultures from around the world, tasting their cuisine and sharing ideas beyond our own beliefs. Christophe took a great selection of photos summarising the event: please click on this link

A Poem Dedicated to the people of Manchester

I belong to the United Kingdom
United is the key
Not north or south – I'm both
and east and west, to boot!

MANCHESTER – I am Manchester
Inside – that's where it counts!

You are my brother, my sister
I feel for you all 'up north' as I happen to live 'down south'..

BUT wherever we are, we are ONE!
Your joy is my joy
Your pain my pain
Your prayers, my prayers
Even if you don't feel them, they are there for YOU!

TOGETHER, we will prevail
religion or no religion,
belief or no belief,

Questing where have my loved ones gone?
What is there after this life?

I too have asked that question
And I have found answers
Keep questing, the answers are there….

Comfort, strength, hope, courage to go on -
that is my prayer for you all

How can I go on without them?  I have,
I know you can
you will see them again!

With love

Marijah Butcher

Messages of Love and Support for Manchester

The Watford Celebration will observe a one-minute silence at 12noon for the victim of the atrocious attack in Manchester. Adults and children will be invited to write messages of love and support to the people of Manchester. There will be a book in the church to sign and children will have the opportunity to draw and send messages to the children in Manchester. Everything will be send to the Mayor of Manchester afterward.
